Year of Production: 2025
Running Time: 13 minutes
Language: English with German subtitles

"Four Percent" explores the evolving role of touch in virtual spaces, revealing how digital interactions shape intimacy in the absence of physical presence. Shot entirely in virtual reality, this short documentary explores human connection in a digital world

Four Percent explores the experience of meeting in virtual spaces and the shifting boundaries of connection in virtual reality (VR). Through intimate portrayals of digital interactions, the film reflects on the feeling of presence in a world where bodies are absent yet connections feel real. It examines the concept of imagined touch—how gestures and digital avatars attempt to bridge the gap left by the lack of physical contact. Filmed entirely within VR, Four Percent captures the tension between distance and closeness, inviting viewers to reflect on the evolving nature of presence, intimacy, and human connection in an increasingly virtual world.

STATEMENT by Monika Masłoń:

I have always been fascinated by the tension between presence and absence, especially in the digital age. With Four Percent, I wanted to explore how human connection evolves in virtual spaces where touch is both possible and impossible. Virtual reality became my laboratory to test the boundaries of sensory experience and question how technology reshapes intimacy. The film is not just about digital encounters—it’s about what we lose and gain in a world where touch is mediated by screens.

"Four Percent" is an exploration of how technology, particularly virtual reality, affects human intimacy. This film began as a personal inquiry into the ways digital spaces shape our emotions and interactions. As we move further into a digitized world, we are forced to rethink the idea of "touch" — both its necessity and its virtual potential. This project is an ongoing exploration of how far-reaching our need for human connection is, even in the absence of physical proximity. I want to explore how VR, as a technology that distances us physically, can also allow us to discover new forms of closeness.
